Voice Instruction The study of voice has always been a confusing issue to us. As gigging musicians since high school, most of the effective singers We've encountered were players that sang. We still believe that to sing and not play an instrument is not the best way. Our experience is that most people calling for vocal lessons are focused on lead singing in a band. Parents have witnessed there child carrying a tune along with a record, or someone brought the house down at a karaoke contest. The next thing you know we get a call for vocal lessons. Most of these people should probably be considering piano or guitar lessons for the purpose of accompanying themselves. Proper voice instruction should cover the same breathing techniques learned by any wind instrument player. Ear training should be stressed and the student should be aware of the value of being a reliable part or harmony singer. Styles and repertoire are also a huge part of vocal instruction. We believe that more misconceptions surround the instruction of voice than any other discipline. With vocal instruction it is important for us to know what you expect to get from your lessons. This will help us guide you on the proper course. |
