Percussion Instruction Most percussion instruction today is really just drum set instruction. Students are taught a few basic grooves and never taught to read. This like most bass and guitar instruction is a quick trip to a dead end. At the Tony Boffa School we treat percussion students as musicians not drummers. We emphasize learning the same literacy skills required in other instrument instruction. When a pupil can read, different styles can be taught more efficiently and effectively. The essential rudiments will be taught and our instructors will keep up with the newest techniques. Mallet instruction is also available for interested students. Our priorities will always be to stress the skills necessary to perform with others in a variety of formats. |
