Guitar Instruction The popularity of these instruments has lead to a world of shortcut and quick fix teaching. While we recognize and encourage virtually all styles of music, we also believe in teaching the students to read standard notation. The balance between addressing the student's desires, and us feeling that we are heading the student toward musical self-reliance is a delicate one. Style considerations can be better dealt with after some basic fundamentals are developed. These fundamentals are reading standard notation as well as tablature, posture, right and left hand positioning, Scale and arpeggio playing, open or folk chord forms, movable root six and root five chords and basic ear training. When the student displays advancing fundamentals they earn the right to be channeled to a teacher who specializes in their style preference. |
